Chapter Fifty-Three: Omniscient Assassin.
“UGH!” Anna screamed once she’d gotten back in her car. She knew that Marcus wouldn’t be happy about how things went down, but at least she got Jade back. Anna chuckled as she thought about how she had Jade right in the palm of her hand. She remembered the fear in her eyes as she tried to look tough and make her leave. She’d never leave. Jade was hers. Anna cleaned the butt of her gun, trying to get the blood off of it when she saw lights coming up behind her. “Oh damn,” she mumbled as the ambulances got closer. The call for a rape and assault came in over her radio, making her blood boil. “I knew I should have checked the closet! That bitch was in there the whole time! Oh damn, what’s Marcus gonna say?” Anna punched the steering wheel and watched as the EMTs got out and rushed the apartment building.
Just then her cell phone rang, making her jump. “Hi, Daddy.” “Bitch, don’t ‘hi daddy’ me! Did you get her back yet?” She rolled her eyes and stifled a sigh before saying “Yes, Marcus. I’m at her apartment now.” “Good. So you can explain why the FUCK there are ambulances and shit outside her door. What the fuck did you do this time, you simple bitch?” Anna looked around for Marcus, trying to figure out how he knew what was happening. “Stop lookin’ around. You look crazier than you are. What you do?” Anna started her car and pulled off fast, dropping her phone in the passenger seat. Her tires squealed as she gunned it, heading for the closest interstate ramp. “Shit…” she mumbled, seeing Marcus following her in a Lexus coupe. She saw the look in his eye; if she didn’t get away, he was going to kill her. She saw him yelling into the phone and figured he was still talking to her. Little did she know what was really about to happen.
She sped down the interstate, sirens on full blast. Weaving in and out of traffic, Anna fought the urge to panic. She looked in her rear view, but Marcus was gone. Picking up her phone, she saw that he’d hung up too. Taking a deep breath, she selected Zoe’s name in her contact list. “Yes, Anna?” She always loved Zoe’s accent, and the fact that she answered on the first ring. “Babe, I need your help. Marcus is mad at me. I messed up bad.” Zoe chuckled on the other line, making Anna’s hair stand up on her arms. “Oh, alright. So first I’m a bitch and you’re trying to snitch me out, then you need me? You know what Anna? Fuck you.” With that, Zoe hung up the phone and sped up, weaving through the slowed cars.
“That was her, wasn’t it?” Marcus growled. Zoe nodded, glancing into the screen on her dashboard. Marcus licked his lips and smiled devilishly. “Alright baby girl, you know what to do. You’ll get your pay and hers if you get this right. If not, you betta pray I don’t find you.” The screen went black and a chill went through Zoe’s spine. She called Tara, but got no answer. “Hey baby. I was just calling to check on you. It’s been two days since I’ve heard that beautiful voice of yours. Why don’t we relive our first date, say…tomorrow night? Let me know. Kisses.” Zoe shook her head and hung up. She knew she couldn’t mess up things with Tara or she would be facing the same fate Anna was.
Anna panicked and swerved, exiting the interstate too fast. Her mind was all over the place and she didn’t see the car stopped in front of her until it was too late. She slammed into the back of it, going sixty-five miles an hour. Anna was thrown from the car, her head being the first thing to go through the windshield. She laid there covered in blood and glass, unable to move. She started to feel cold and everything was blurry when she opened her eyes. “Oh no no no. You can’t die yet,” Marcus sneered, “we’ve still got to talk.” He jabbed his finger into the gash on Anna’s head, making her scream with despair, before picking her up and throwing her into the back of a pickup truck.
Zoe walked into the empty cellar below the library and waited until she heard thuds echoing on the stairs. “Yeah, first you wanna fuck up and she leaves you. Then you wanna send her to the hospital. I didn’t hire you to do that, Anna. You should have known better than to think I wouldn’t find out.” Zoe watched as Marcus dragged Anna across the floor by her hair. Anna was limp, but Zoe could see her chest heaving. She crouched down, careful to stay in the shadows and out of sight. The glint of Marcus’ knife caught her attention and she watched as he cut off Anna’s uniform. “You silly bitch. Simple, silly bitch. All I wanted you to do was get close enough to her so that I could get to that ditzy ass Melanie, but you couldn’t even do that shit right! It’s a wonder you got through police academy. I guess Maryland accepts nasty ass prostitutes into the academy, huh? You won’t nothin’ more than a trick before I met you! That’s what you gonna be when you die. Now spread your legs nice for Daddy.”
Marcus stabbed his knife into Anna’s stomach and twisted it before forcefully spreading her legs and undoing his pants. As he fucked her, he grunted and held onto the knife. Zoe watched as it ripped Anna’s skin, listened as her screams echoed off the walls. Her eyes welled up as she watched her counterpart being ripped to shreds by the one that was supposed to take care of them. Marcus pulled out and came all over Anna’s face and neck before he leaned down next to her ear. “Oh yeah, the pussy was good. No wonder I kept yo stupid ass around” he snarled. With one swift motion, he slit Anna’s neck and spit on her. Zoe closed her eyes as Anna started to drown in her own blood, the gurgles breaking the silence. Tears slipped down her face and her hand trembled as she stood up and walked up behind Marcus.
“Get on your knees.” Marcus spun around and found Zoe standing behind him. “Oh…baby girl! How long you been here?” Zoe rolled her eyes and put one hand on her hip, careful to keep the other behind her back. “Long enough to watch you fuck and kill Anna. Her pussy was good, huh? Better than mine, right? Go ahead. Say it.” “Nah, it won’t even like that, baby girl.” Marcus reached out to touch Zoe, but she grabbed and twisted his wrist. Pressing his hand back into his chest, she reveled in the sound of the snap. “Say it, bastard.” She watched as his face twisted in agony and laughed. “You slap me around after begging me to work for you? You knew she wouldn’t be able to get it right. You made me look like a fool, when in all reality it’s you that’s the fuckin’ fool. You really think I work for you, huh?” Zoe kicked Marcus in the shin, shattering the bone and dropping him to the ground.
She stared down at him, her black eyes flashing. A look of mock pity painted her face as she cooed “Awww Daddy you hurtin’?” He started to say something, so Zoe hauled back and kicked him in the face. Marcus’ head slammed against the floor, spewing blood. “You hire me to lead a woman on so you can get revenge on her best friend for not fuckin’ you. You get me to play with her emotions. You hired Anna for her pussy, and then tried to get her to lead Jade on. You ain’t shit. You pay well, but you still ain’t shit. Then to think you can slap me around? You must have been sadly mistaken.” She spit on his face and stomped on his shoulder, knocking it out of place. Zoe’s hand started to shake again, her finger itching. Squatting down, she tilted her head and looked at Marcus square in the eye. “Oh yeah, you wanna know why Melanie doesn’t want you?” Marcus whimpered and tried to plead with Zoe to stop hurting him. “Your dick is small and your teeth are yellow.” With that, Zoe aimed the pistol at the middle of his forehead and pulled the trigger. “Hector, would you mind cleaning this up for me? I’ll pay you handsomely.” She looked over her shoulder at the man standing in front of the door. “Sure thing, Zoe.”
